Forgive me not reading all those recommendations, if there is more. I put this thread after I read and tried 2 threads in this BBS recommended 2 web sites that can translate an English word to Chinese or whatever other language.
I really want to speak to those who recommended web-based online dictionary here. Have you tried "必应词典”? It is a must-have-software in my several PCs since last 3 or 4 years.
Truely my personal recommendation, I don't want this be suspected as an Advertisement for Microsoft who develops this software. In my opinion, it beats any online or computer based dictionary I ever used. Some features I don't think any other dictionary would have all and they are useful:
both British and American pronunciations by real people
English to English meaning for majority of the words
search web looking for meanings of the words that are not included in traditional dictionaries.
numerous example of sentences as long as you have time to read them all. Because it can search the web to find them
record all those words you want to remember in "生词本"
help you to remember those new words by "必应背单词”
sync the records across multiple 必应词典 in your PCs by Microsoft's cloud, if you use outlook ID to login
iOS and Android versions are available though I haven't tried them as seldom use dictionary in my mobile phones.
必应词典 is so far a real “互联网+" dictionary. It is my favorite. Anyone who thinks those web-page-based online free dictionary is good should give yourself an chance to try 必应词典.
